The Problem

Getting rid of junk here takes more than it should

You search for options, call around to figure out who actually serves your address, request a few hauler quotes, and hear back from maybe one. Weeks later, the junk is still sitting in the garage.

Free city pickup is great, when it works

Because August is unincorporated, Stockton's city programs may not cover you. Any county bulk pickup program usually needs advance scheduling, limits what and how much you can set out, and still expects you to drag heavy pieces to the street yourself.

Traditional haulers play pricing games

Many haulers want to send someone out for an in-person estimate before they'll name a price. Then the quote is based on a vague fraction of a truckload, and the final bill can change once the crew sees what's actually there.

Donation centers are picky (rightly)

Thrift stores and charities have to be selective, so stained mattresses, worn upholstery and older electronics often get turned away. You're still the one loading, driving and unloading, and whatever they refuse comes right back home with you.

Dumpster rental is overkill for one room

A roll-off sounds simple until you're coordinating delivery and pickup windows, checking whether placement rules apply, and watching a big steel bin take over your driveway for days. For a garage cleanout or a few bulky pieces, it's far more container than you need.

What sets us apart

Your price is locked before pickup day

Most companies charge by truck space, and the price often changes on arrival. LoadUp charges by item, based on exactly what you're removing.

  • Per-item, predictable. First item includes the pickup fee. Every add-on is flat, no truck math, no hourly rates.
  • Locked means locked. The price at booking is what you pay. No adjustments, no surprises.
  • No-obligation quotes. Big job or full cleanout? Text a photo for a guaranteed price first.

Local Disposal Rules

The August disposal rules most residents don't know

Throwing out the wrong items can leave a household out of compliance with California recycling mandates. In unincorporated August, San Joaquin County rules decide where everything goes.

Rule 01

Loose batteries are a fire hazard inside collection trucks

Batteries can catch fire when they are compacted and crushed in garbage trucks and waste facilities, which puts workers at risk. California classifies household batteries as universal waste, so it is illegal to put them in any trash cart in the state.

Rule 02

State law counts cardboard as organic waste, not trash

Under SB 1383, California's definition of organic waste includes paper and cardboard, and local governments must keep it out of landfills. In the county's three-cart system, boxes from a move or cleanout go in the blue mixed recyclables cart.

Rule 03

Garbage service is required in August's denser neighborhoods

Since 1994, San Joaquin County has required garbage collection for residents in densely populated unincorporated areas. The unincorporated areas near Stockton make up Refuse Service Area C. A new county collection contract with USA Waste of California takes effect there on January 1, 2026.

Rule 04

Household chemicals have a limited four-day drop-off window

San Joaquin County residents can use the county Household Hazardous Waste Facility for free. It is only open Thursday through Sunday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and closes on major holidays. Larger quantities may need an appointment with a Hazardous Waste Specialist.

Rule 05

Self-hauled waste must be sorted to meet state mandates

Residents outside the mandatory service area can choose not to sign up for curbside service and haul their own waste. The county requires those loads to be sorted to meet state rules and taken to facilities that can process or recycle each type of material.

Rule 06

Yard trimmings belong in the green organics cart

California's SB 1383 requires yard materials, food scraps and food-soiled paper to be recycled instead of sent to a landfill. Most households with required service in unincorporated San Joaquin County get a green organics cart along with blue recycling and grey trash carts.

Not without a scheduled pickup. August is unincorporated, so county rules apply, not Stockton's. Dumping unwanted items illegally can bring criminal prosecution and fines up to $10,000 in San Joaquin County. Ask your garbage hauler about bulky item pickup first.

Usually not. Clean Sweep is a City of Stockton program, and the city says residents outside its limits or in county pockets should contact the San Joaquin County Solid Waste Division. August is unincorporated, so confirm your eligibility with the county or your hauler.

LoadUp pricing for junk removal in August starts at $75, and curbside or driveway pickup takes a flat $5 off. The first item includes the base pickup fee, each additional item is a flat add-on, and the exact total is confirmed before booking.

Same-day slots are sometimes available, but it depends on Loader schedules near Stockton that day. Enter your address during booking to see live availability. For outdoor pickups you generally don't need to be home. For indoor jobs, someone should be there or leave access notes.

Household hazardous waste like paint, pool chemicals, batteries, motor oil and pesticides can't go in regular trash. San Joaquin County residents can drop them off free at the HHW Facility, 7850 R.A. Bridgeford St, Stockton, up to 15 gallons or 125 pounds per trip.

Loaders aim to keep usable items out of the landfill. Depending on acceptance, good items may go to local donation centers, recyclables go to recycling facilities, and the rest is taken to an appropriate disposal site. Outcomes vary by item condition, and donation or recycling isn't guaranteed.

Mainly pricing and booking. Traditional haulers like 1-800-GOT-JUNK and Junk King generally price by truck space, often with an on-site estimate. LoadUp prices per item online and confirms the total before anyone arrives. For a full-house cleanout, a truckload hauler may suit you better.
