The Problem

Hilton Head has junk options. None of them fit.

You check what your community allows, call around for bulk pickup details, request a few hauler quotes and hear back from maybe one. Meanwhile the guest room stays blocked and another weekend slips by.

Free city pickup is great, when it works

Bulk collection depends on who handles your trash. That could be a contracted hauler, your property owners' association or a county drop-off, and each one has different rules. Requests often need advance notice, items are limited, and someone still has to drag everything out to the pickup spot.

Traditional haulers play pricing games

Many haulers want to walk through the property before they give a quote, which is hard if you spend part of the year off the island. The price is then tied to how much of the truck you fill, and that number tends to shift once the crew arrives.

Donation centers are picky (rightly)

Thrift stores and donation centers generally want clean pieces they can sell, and Lowcountry humidity is hard on upholstery and mattresses. Many won't take worn items, and their pickup windows can be weeks out. Whatever they turn down is still yours to deal with.

Dumpster rental is overkill for one room

A roll-off makes sense for a gut renovation, not for a few chairs and a rusted grill. Many communities limit driveway dumpsters or require approval first. Delivery and removal both have to be scheduled, and you still do all the lifting yourself.

What sets us apart

Your price is locked before pickup day

Most companies charge by truck space, and the price often changes on arrival. LoadUp charges by item, based on exactly what you're removing.

  • Per-item, predictable. First item includes the pickup fee. Every add-on is flat, no truck math, no hourly rates.
  • Locked means locked. The price at booking is what you pay. No adjustments, no surprises.
  • No-obligation quotes. Big job or full cleanout? Text a photo for a guaranteed price first.

Local Disposal Rules

The Hilton Head Island disposal rules most residents don't know

Leaving items outside a closed convenience center gate is treated as illegal dumping under South Carolina law, and these Hilton Head Island and Beaufort County rules shape what goes where.

Rule 01

Hurricane debris on the Island follows the Town's own cleanup

Hilton Head Island manages storm debris removal separately from Beaufort County. Temporary post-storm collection centers are open only to Island residents with proof of address, accept only storm-generated debris, and Town Code allows the Town to enter private property to remove it.

Rule 02

Televisions and computer monitors are banned from South Carolina landfills

Since July 2011, state law has barred residents from knowingly discarding computers, computer monitors, printers, and televisions into landfill-bound trash. Beaufort County collects them at quarterly e-waste events and through a schedule-it-yourself drop-off pilot limited to five residential items per person.

Rule 03

Convenience center passes go only to county property owners

Beaufort County created its solid waste pass to stop out-of-county use and to keep contractors and businesses out of its centers. Passes are issued only to county property owners with a livable dwelling on the property, and each household gets three visits per week.

Rule 04

Old tires are capped at four per day

Beaufort County convenience centers take car, motorcycle, and truck tires for recycling, but drop-offs are limited to four per day. A garage or shed cleanout that turns up more than four old tires will need to be split across separate visits.

Rule 05

Mattresses and sofas are accepted at only four county centers

Among Beaufort County's convenience centers, only Bluffton, Hilton Head, Shanklin, and St. Helena take mattresses and furniture such as sofas, tables, and dressers. Island residents have a local option, while the smaller centers elsewhere in the county do not accept these items.

Rule 06

Contractor remodel debris is barred from every county convenience center

Beaufort County ordinance strictly forbids using convenience centers for commercially generated solid waste, and no commercial construction and demolition waste is allowed at any county center. Debris produced by a contractor's kitchen or bathroom remodel generally needs a different disposal route.

Not unless your trash provider has confirmed a bulk pickup for it. Items set out without arrangements can count as illegal dumping, and rules differ between town, county, and gated community. Check with your hauler or property manager first.

LoadUp pricing for junk removal in Hilton Head Island starts at $80, and pickup from the curb or driveway takes $5 off. The first item includes the base pickup fee, and each additional item is a flat add-on charge. The exact total is confirmed before booking. Truck-load haulers usually price by volume.

Same-day pickup is sometimes possible, depending on Loader availability for your address and the time you book. Enter your address during booking to see the open slots. For curbside jobs you usually don't need to be home, but indoor pickups need access arranged.

Yes, but plan ahead. Many Hilton Head communities, such as Sea Pines, Palmetto Dunes, and Hilton Head Plantation, have gate access rules. Add the gate code or guest instructions at booking so your Loader can get in. Some communities or HOAs also have their own rules on debris and vendors.

Loaders aim to donate usable items to local charities and recycle what they can, depending on acceptance. Items that can't be donated or recycled go to an appropriate disposal facility. Outcomes vary by item condition, so none of this is guaranteed.

Book online, pick your items and a time window, and see your total before you confirm. On pickup day your Loader arrives, carries the items out, and loads them. You don't need to move anything yourself, and curbside items can be left outside with access notes.

The main difference is the pricing model. Traditional truck-load haulers often price by the volume of the load and may confirm the cost on site. LoadUp prices per item online, so you see the total before booking. For larger cleanouts, a truck-load hauler can be a better fit.
