The Problem

Hauʻula has junk options. None of them quite fit.

You look up the rules, call to request an appointment, message a few haulers, and wait. One sends a vague quote, two never reply. Weeks later, the junk is still sitting under the carport.

Free city pickup is great, when it works

Honolulu's bulky item collection is free, but it typically runs on appointments, item limits, and windward schedules that may not match your timeline. Some things are excluded or need special handling, and everything still has to reach the roadside, which on a long rural lot is real work.

Traditional haulers play pricing games

Many haulers want to come out and look over the job first, which can mean a long wait for a stretch of Kamehameha Highway outside their usual area. Then the price is billed as a fraction of a truckload, and you rarely know the number until the truck is in your driveway.

Donation centers are picky (rightly)

Donation is a good outcome when it works, but drop-off sites screen for condition, and salt air and humidity are hard on fabric, wood, and metal. Stained couches, rusted frames, and worn mattresses usually get turned away, and you still have to haul them there.

Dumpster rental is overkill for one room

A roll-off makes sense for a full renovation, not a spare room. You need space to park it, possibly a permit if it sits on the road, and a pickup date to work around, all while it sits in view of neighbors on a quiet, close-knit street.

What sets us apart

Your price is locked before pickup day

Most companies charge by truck space, and the price often changes on arrival. LoadUp charges by item, based on exactly what you're removing.

  • Per-item, predictable. First item includes the pickup fee. Every add-on is flat, no truck math, no hourly rates.
  • Locked means locked. The price at booking is what you pay. No adjustments, no surprises.
  • No-obligation quotes. Big job or full cleanout? Text a photo for a guaranteed price first.

Neighborhoods Served

Serving Hauʻula, along Kamehameha Highway and the whole windward coast

Leave a mattress under the carport in Hauʻula and the trade-wind rain and salt air will make it heavier, soggier, and far less willing to leave. Your Loaders handle the lifting from lanai, garage, or the back of the lot, and they enjoy showing up for the families and neighbors who make this place feel like home.

What Happens to Your Junk

Donation first, recycling second, landfill last

Bulky items pile up fast on larger Hauʻula lots, and where they go next matters as much as getting them out. Your Loader sorts each item by condition, so donation, recycling, or disposal fits what you have.

Gently Used

Donation Pickup

Furniture and household goods that are clean and in good shape may be donated when local options allow. Your Loader checks condition at pickup, and whether an item is accepted depends on what is available nearby.

  • Tax-deductible receipt by request
  • Diverts waste from landfill
  • Free up your space and help a neighbor

Visible Wear

Recycling

Items that are worn or damaged but still have usable material may be recycled where available. Oʻahu's recycling options are limited, so your Loader sorts what can be diverted and tells you what cannot.

  • Materials sorted and recovered
  • Diverted from landfill where possible
  • Compliant with local waste regs

Heavily Damaged

Responsible Disposal

Heavily damaged, soiled, or water-ruined bulky items go to responsible disposal through Oʻahu's island waste system. Your Loader handles the lifting and loading from your yard, lanai, or garage in Hauʻula.

  • No logistics or transport to handle
  • No sorting or drop-off required on your end
  • Local disposal fees covered

Local Disposal Rules

The Hauʻula disposal rules most residents don't know

Bulky items set out without a scheduled appointment can bring civil fines, so here is how disposal works in Hau‘ula and the rest of Honolulu County.

Rule 01

Old car batteries go back to the dealer under state law

Hawaii law requires dealers that sell lead-acid vehicle batteries to accept used ones for recycling. That gives a battery found in a garage or carport cleanout a set return path, and it keeps the battery out of household trash.

Rule 02

Couches and mattresses go out only by monthly appointment

Since July 2020, bulky item pickup across O‘ahu has been by appointment only. Each address gets one standard appointment per month for up to five bulky items. Set them out no earlier than 6 p.m. the evening before and no later than 6 a.m.

Rule 03

Propane tanks must stay out of trash and bulky piles

Much of O‘ahu's household trash goes to H-POWER, the City's waste-to-energy plant. Propane tanks can explode there, so the City directs residents to bring them to a City Convenience Center for Refuse and Recycling instead.

Rule 04

Laie Convenience Center is the nearest drop-off for Hau‘ula

If a cleanout goes past the appointment limits, the City recommends donating usable items or using its drop-off facilities. The Laie Convenience Center, just north of Hau‘ula, is open daily from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. for household loads.

Rule 05

Tires are banned from the City's disposal sites

Tires can't go out with regular refuse at O‘ahu's disposal sites, and commercial loads are sent to tire recycling facilities. In Hau‘ula's warm, rainy climate, old tires stacked outdoors also hold standing water where mosquitoes can breed.

Rule 06

Refrigerators and water heaters need their own appliance appointment

Metal appliances such as refrigerators, washers, dryers, stoves, and water heaters are booked separately from furniture. A single-family home can schedule up to two per appliance appointment. City crews collect only the items listed, so anything extra can be left behind.

No. Honolulu's bulky item pickup is by appointment, and items can go out no earlier than 6 p.m. the evening before. Putting items out outside the appointment window can bring civil fines. Crews will not enter private property to retrieve them.

LoadUp pricing for junk removal in Hauʻula starts at $95, and curbside or driveway pickup takes $5 off. The first item includes the base pickup fee, each additional item is a flat add-on charge, and the exact total is confirmed before booking.

Same-day and next-day pickup are sometimes available in Hauʻula, depending on Loader availability and your schedule. Enter your address when booking to see open times. For curbside pickups you generally do not need to be home.

The City allows one standard bulky appointment per address per month, up to five bulky items for a single-family home. Metal appliances go through a separate appliance appointment, up to two items. Anything over those limits needs a private hauler or a drop-off.

Yes. Residents can take furniture, bulky items, and green waste to City convenience centers and transfer stations, such as Waimānalo (41-241 Hihimanu St) or Kapaʻa in Kailua. These sites are for residents only, and accepted items vary by site, so check first.

Loaders aim to keep usable items out of the landfill by donating them when local charities accept them. Recyclable materials go to recyclers whenever options allow. Whatever cannot be donated or recycled is taken to an appropriate disposal facility.

You pick your items online, see a price before you commit, and choose a time window. A Loader typically gives notice before arriving, then lifts, hauls, and loads everything. The total is confirmed upfront, so there is no estimate on the driveway.

Pricing model and booking flow. Traditional haulers usually price by truckload and may confirm the price on arrival. LoadUp prices per item online and confirms the total before booking. For a few items that can cost less, but a full-house cleanout may suit a truckload hauler.
