The Problem

Getting rid of junk in Eagan takes more than it should

You search for options, call the city, request a few hauler quotes, and wait. Some reply, some never do. Weeks later, the junk is still parked in the garage, waiting on a plan.

Free city pickup is great, when it works

Municipal pickup schedules can handle some bulky items, but usually on their own timeline. Many have to be requested ahead of time, limit what qualifies, and leave it to you to drag everything to the curb. That's a tough ask if it's stuck in the basement.

Traditional haulers play pricing games

Many haulers want to send someone out for an estimate first, then price the job by how much of the truck it fills. You often don't know the real cost until the truck shows up, and by then your junk is already halfway loaded.

Donation centers are picky (rightly)

Donation centers need items they can actually resell, so stained upholstery, worn mattresses, and broken furniture often get turned away. Even when something qualifies, you still have to load it, drive it over, and figure out what to do with the leftovers.

Dumpster rental is overkill for one room

A roll-off dumpster makes sense for a full renovation, not a single spare room. You may need to sort out a permit, plan around delivery and pickup windows, and live with a big steel box in the driveway while the neighbors watch it fill up.

What sets us apart

Your price is locked before pickup day

Most companies charge by truck space, and the price often changes on arrival. LoadUp charges by item, based on exactly what you're removing.

  • Per-item, predictable. First item includes the pickup fee. Every add-on is flat, no truck math, no hourly rates.
  • Locked means locked. The price at booking is what you pay. No adjustments, no surprises.
  • No-obligation quotes. Big job or full cleanout? Text a photo for a guaranteed price first.

The Eagan disposal rules most residents don't know

One dead battery thrown in the trash can start a fire at a waste facility. Here is what Eagan and Dakota County expect from residents during a cleanout.

Rule 01

Trash carts must stay out of street view between pickups

Eagan allows carts at the curb only around collection day, starting at 6 p.m. the night before. The rest of the time they belong in the house, the garage, or behind the front of the home. Pickup days are split by Lexington Avenue and Diffley Road.

Rule 02

Tape battery ends before dropping them at the Recycling Zone

Lithium-ion batteries cause fires every day at waste and recycling facilities, so Eagan asks residents to keep them out of both trash and recycling. Put tape over both ends of each battery and pack them in a box you can leave behind. Then stay in your vehicle while staff unload.

Rule 03

Leftover paint and cleaners can find a second home

The Recycling Zone takes paints, stains, household cleaners, and yard and garden chemicals. It also has a Reuse Zone, where residents can pick up free products other people dropped off. Check there before you buy new stain for a project.

Rule 04

Holiday string lights stay out of the recycling cart

Eagan's recycling guidance calls chains, extension cords, hoses and string lights tanglers, and they do not belong in curbside recycling. This comes up after the winter holidays, when burned-out light strands and frayed cords from storage bins start to pile up.

Rule 05

TVs and computer monitors carry a fee at the Recycling Zone

Dakota County charges $10 each to recycle televisions and monitors at the Recycling Zone in Eagan. Laptops, tablets, desktop printers, electronic games systems and telephones are free. Residents of seven metro counties can drop off there. Bring a credit card or exact change.

Rule 06

Ask your mattress retailer about disposal before anything else

Eagan has no city garbage service, so each household contracts with a licensed trash company. If a mattress can't be recycled, Dakota Valley Recycling suggests asking the store delivering your new one about disposal. Otherwise, schedule a bulky item pickup or pay a landfill fee.

Not unless your hauler agrees to take it. Eagan does not run city trash pickup. Residents contract with a city-licensed private hauler, so bulky items usually need to be arranged with that hauler first. Items left out without arrangement can be treated as illegal dumping.

LoadUp pricing for junk removal in Eagan starts at $95, and curbside or driveway pickup takes a flat $5 off. The first item includes the base pickup fee, and each additional item is a flat add-on charge. The exact total is confirmed before you book.

Same-day pickup is often available in the Eagan area, depending on how full the schedule is when you book. Next-day slots are more common. Enter your address during booking to see live availability. For curbside pickups, you usually do not need to be home.

Take them to The Recycling Zone at 3365 Dodd Road in Eagan. It is Dakota County's facility and accepts household hazardous waste from residents at no charge. Tires, TVs and computer monitors carry a small fee. Hazardous materials cannot go in regular garbage.

Loaders aim to keep usable items out of the landfill. Whenever possible, they donate furniture and household goods to local charities and send scrap metal and electronics to recyclers, depending on acceptance. Items that can't be donated or recycled go to an appropriate disposal facility.

You book online, pick your items and a time, and see the price before you confirm. On pickup day, your Loader usually calls or texts ahead of arrival, then removes the items and hauls them away. Whether you need to be home depends on where the items are.

The main differences are pricing model and booking. Traditional haulers often charge by truckload and may confirm the price on site. LoadUp prices per item online and shows the total before booking. For a big cleanout, truckload pricing can sometimes be the better fit.
