The Problem

Clearing junk off the ridge is harder than it looks

You look into transfer site rules, call around for a hauler, and wait on callbacks that never come. Meanwhile the shed stays full, the trailer is still borrowed in theory, and another season slips by.

Free city pickup is great, when it works

As an unincorporated community, Diamond Ridge may not have a city bulk pickup program at all. Borough-run drop-off sites can help, but you still have to load, haul, and unload everything yourself, and accepted materials and hours can change.

Traditional haulers play pricing games

Many haulers want to see the job in person before quoting, and a gravel drive up the ridge can mean a long wait for that visit. Truckload pricing leaves you guessing how much space your pile really fills until the bill arrives.

Donation centers are picky (rightly)

Thrift and donation spots need items in good, sellable shape, and most will turn away anything worn, broken, or stained. That leaves the warped shelving, rusted tools, and tired recliner sitting right where they were.

Dumpster rental is overkill for one room

A roll-off container needs level, solid ground and a truck that can reach it, which is tough on a soft or steep driveway. You still do all the lifting, and the container sits there for days for what might be a single afternoon's cleanout.

What sets us apart

Your price is locked before pickup day

Most companies charge by truck space, and the price often changes on arrival. LoadUp charges by item, based on exactly what you're removing.

  • Per-item, predictable. First item includes the pickup fee. Every add-on is flat, no truck math, no hourly rates.
  • Locked means locked. The price at booking is what you pay. No adjustments, no surprises.
  • No-obligation quotes. Big job or full cleanout? Text a photo for a guaranteed price first.

Neighborhoods Served

Serving Diamond Ridge, from the Sterling Highway up the ridge roads

Hauling a busted freezer down the hill to Homer is a whole afternoon, and that's before the gravel and the weather weigh in. Out here, a loaded truck bed is a real commitment. Your Loaders carry it from the shed or barn and load it up, and they genuinely like showing up for this community.

What Happens to Your Junk

Donation first, recycling second, landfill last

Bulky items pile up fast on a rural property, and in Diamond Ridge the question is often where they end up afterward. Your Loader sorts each load by condition, favoring donation or recycling when local options allow.

Gently Used

Donation Pickup

Furniture, tools, and household goods in good, clean condition may be donated when local options allow. Your Loader can set these aside during loading, though availability varies and nothing is guaranteed.

  • Tax-deductible receipt by request
  • Diverts waste from landfill
  • Free up your space and help a neighbor

Visible Wear

Recycling

Items that are worn or damaged but still hold usable materials, like metal frames or appliances, may be recycled where available. Options on the Kenai Peninsula are limited, so your Loader confirms what is realistic.

  • Materials sorted and recovered
  • Diverted from landfill where possible
  • Compliant with local waste regs

Heavily Damaged

Responsible Disposal

Heavily damaged or contaminated bulky items go to disposal, usually through a borough solid waste site or a private operator. Some items may not be accepted, and your Loader can confirm before anything leaves.

  • No logistics or transport to handle
  • No sorting or drop-off required on your end
  • Local disposal fees covered

Local Disposal Rules

The Diamond Ridge disposal rules most residents don't know

Arrive at the wrong hour or with an unsorted load and your load can be turned away. These Kenai Peninsula Borough rules govern disposal for Diamond Ridge households.

Rule 01

Household garbage travels to Soldotna for final burial

The borough and the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation decided Homer's landfill should close to household waste. Since then, trash dropped off in Homer goes to the Central Peninsula Landfill in Soldotna, which is the borough site that takes the widest variety of materials.

Rule 02

Brush drop-off closes before the main gate does

The brush area at the Homer Transfer Facility stops taking material at 5:30 p.m., fifteen minutes before the facility closes. If there isn't enough time to unload by 5:30, the load is turned away. Bring spruce limbs and clearing debris early in the day.

Rule 03

Usable lumber can be salvaged instead of buried

The borough is expanding a building material reuse area at the Homer Transfer Facility. Volunteers with Homer Drawdown pull usable lumber and metal out before it goes into the construction and demolition cell. Clean, usable boards from a remodel can get a second life there.

Rule 04

Winter Sundays are off the table at Homer's facility

Diamond Ridge is unincorporated, so residents use the borough's Homer Transfer Facility. To save money, it closes on Sundays from October 1 through May 1. Cold-season cleanouts have to fit into Monday through Saturday hours.

Rule 05

Contractor-scale cleanouts face a per-job volume cap

At the Homer facility, commercial jobs are limited to 250 cubic yards each. Charges by weight on the scale apply only to commercial vehicles with a borough Solid Waste Charge Account. Commercial vehicles without an account pay by volume, and businesses also pay hazardous waste fees.

Rule 06

Construction debris stays in Homer, buried in its own cell

Homer no longer buries household garbage, but it still buries inert construction and demolition waste on site. That cell takes in roughly nine thousand cubic yards a year and is the facility's only active landfill cell.

Diamond Ridge is unincorporated, so there is no city curbside bulk program. Residents haul their own waste or hire a service. The Kenai Peninsula Borough runs the Homer Transfer Facility at 3300 Sterling Hwy, (907) 235-6678, and charges disposal fees.

LoadUp pricing for junk removal in Diamond Ridge starts at $105 for the first item, which includes the pickup fee. Each additional item is a flat add-on, and the exact total is confirmed before booking. Curbside or outdoor pickup takes $5 off.

Availability depends on Loader schedules for the Homer area, so same-day is not guaranteed. Enter your address during booking to see open times. For curbside or driveway pickups, you don't need to be home if you leave access notes.

The Homer Transfer Facility on the Sterling Highway is the closest borough site. It takes household waste and recycling, used motor oil, and refrigerators, and it holds hazardous waste collection events. It closes Sundays from October through April, and fees apply.

Loaders try to donate usable items and recycle what they can when options allow. Acceptance depends on what local charities and recyclers take, and outcomes aren't guaranteed. Items that can't be reused or recycled are disposed of at an appropriate facility.

Book online, pick the item or items, and see your price before you confirm. Choose a pickup window and leave access notes if you won't be home. A Loader arrives, removes the junk, and handles the hauling and loading.

Traditional haulers like 1-800-GOT-JUNK or Junk King usually price by truckload and often confirm cost after an on-site estimate. LoadUp prices per item online, with the total locked before booking. For a very large cleanout, a truckload hauler can be the better fit.
