From June 30 through September 30, County-contracted collection of compost, trash, and recycling begins at 5 a.m. instead of the usual 6 a.m. Containers may go to the curb after 6 p.m. the night before, the simplest way to avoid a missed summer pickup.
Scrap tires sit outside the four-item curbside allowance in Prince George's County. Residents need to schedule tire pickup through PGC311, the same appointment system used for appliances, rather than leaving tires beside the trash can on collection day.
Since July 1, 2024, homes with County-contracted collection can place up to four bulky items next to the trash can on their regular collection day, with no appointment. The limit used to be two, so older advice may undercount it.
Residents with County trash and recycling service can schedule curbside electronics recycling collection, but only by appointment through PGC311. Because the County runs this as a separate recycling collection, electronics belong on their own appointment rather than in the four-item bulky set-out.
White goods, including refrigerators, air conditioners, washers, dryers, and other appliances, are excluded from the no-appointment bulky allowance. They must be scheduled for curbside pickup through PGC311, online or by contacting the service, before going to the curb.
Scrap metal is collected separately from regular bulky trash and only by appointment for homes on County-contracted service. Scheduling happens online or through PGC311, so metal pieces should wait until a pickup is confirmed.
