When junk keeps piling up, it stops being a small chore and starts weighing on your whole week. Book a quick pickup, see your real price upfront, and get your space back.
You look up who handles pickup at your address, call the county, leave messages for a couple of haulers, and wait. One calls back with a vague quote. Weeks later, the pile in the garage hasn't moved.
Unincorporated areas don't get a city program of their own, so who picks up what, if anyone, depends on your address. Even where municipal pickup schedules apply, there are usually item limits and rules about setup, and you still have to drag everything to the road yourself.
Many haulers want to come out and look before they'll give you a number, then quote by how much of the truck you fill. You won't know the real total until the truck is loaded, and by then saying no is awkward.
Thrift stores and charities can only take what they can resell, so stained upholstery, worn mattresses, and broken furniture usually get turned away. You might haul a full load across town and drive half of it back home.
A roll-off dumpster makes sense for a full tear-out, not a basement corner or a shed full of old stuff. You'd have to set up delivery and pickup, give up driveway space for days, and still do all the heavy lifting yourself.

If brush and fallen limbs from a wooded lot are already stacked at the end of your driveway, curbside is the simpler choice. Go with full-service when your Loaders need to carry things out of a packed garage, an upstairs bedroom, or a backyard shed.

Living in an unincorporated community means the answer to who handles bulk pickup can change with your address, and nobody wants to sort that out before coffee. Skip the phone tag. Your Loader lifts, carries, and loads from the garage, basement, or shed, and your Loaders genuinely enjoy showing up for neighbors here.
Bulky items rarely belong in one place once they leave your home, so where they end up matters in Colonial Heights. Your Loader sorts what they haul by condition, favoring reuse and recycling when local options allow.
Furniture and household goods that are clean and in good shape may be set aside for donation when possible and when local options allow. Your Loader carries them out and loads them separately.
Items that are worn or damaged but still hold usable materials, like metal frames or scrap wood, may be recycled where available. Availability varies, so nothing is guaranteed.
Heavily damaged, soiled, or broken bulky pieces that can't be reused or recycled are taken for responsible disposal at an appropriate local facility. Your Loader handles the lifting and loading.
Taking a load to the wrong Sullivan County site can mean a wasted trip or a refused load. Here is how disposal works for Colonial Heights households.
Under the federal Clean Air Act, the refrigerant in refrigerators, freezers, dehumidifiers and window air conditioners has to be recovered with certified equipment before the appliance is disposed of or recycled. Releasing refrigerant on purpose is illegal, so never cut the lines on an old unit.
Sullivan County convenience centers and transfer stations collect cardboard for recycling, along with glass, paper, aluminum and metal. Flatten boxes after a move or garage cleanout. Flat boxes fill the containers more slowly and leave room for other residents.
From October 15 through May 15, Tennessee's Division of Forestry requires a free burn permit before you burn leaves or brush outdoors. That covers most of East Tennessee's leaf season. It is never legal to burn household trash, tires or building materials, in any season.
State law bans whole tires from landfills because buried tires cause long-term problems at the site. Tennessee pays for county tire collection through a fee charged on new tire sales, so old tires should go to a tire drop-off the county has designated.
Sullivan County sends electronics recycling to its two transfer stations, one in Bristol and one in Kingsport. The smaller convenience centers around the county don't handle it. Expect a longer drive from Colonial Heights when you have a load of electronics.
Sullivan County Solid Waste takes hazardous household chemicals and pesticides only once a year, at its household hazardous waste collection event. Until then, keep leftover containers sealed, labeled and dry. Don't put them out with regular household trash.

Loaders aim to donate usable items to local charities and recycle what they can, depending on acceptance. Items that can't be reused or recycled go to licensed disposal sites. Outcomes vary by item condition and what local partners will take.
