The Problem

Getting junk out of Chisholm takes more than willpower

You look up the town's rules, call the office in Jay, leave messages with a couple of haulers, and wait. Some call back and some never do. Weeks go by, and the junk is still in the garage.

Free city pickup is great, when it works

Small Maine towns like Jay may run bulk pickup on a limited schedule, or not offer it at all. Even when a municipal pickup schedule exists, it usually means calling ahead, waiting for a set date, and dragging heavy pieces out yourself. Some items get turned away.

Traditional haulers play pricing games

Many haulers want to look at the job in person before they give you a number, and then they price it by how much of the truck it fills. You don't know the real cost until the truck is already loaded, which makes it hard to plan or compare.

Donation centers are picky (rightly)

Donation centers have to be choosy about condition, so stained upholstery, worn mattresses, and broken appliances often get refused. Even good items need to be loaded up and driven over during open hours. Whatever they decline ends up back in your garage.

Dumpster rental is overkill for one room

A dumpster makes sense for a whole gut renovation, not for clearing one basement or bedroom. You still have to schedule the drop-off and pickup, find level ground for it, maybe look into permits, and do all the lifting yourself while it sits in your driveway.

What sets us apart

Your price is locked before pickup day

Most companies charge by truck space, and the price often changes on arrival. LoadUp charges by item, based on exactly what you're removing.

  • Per-item, predictable. First item includes the pickup fee. Every add-on is flat, no truck math, no hourly rates.
  • Locked means locked. The price at booking is what you pay. No adjustments, no surprises.
  • No-obligation quotes. Big job or full cleanout? Text a photo for a guaranteed price first.

Neighborhoods Served

Serving Chisholm, from the Androscoggin to the far edges of Jay

A bulky load and a limited disposal schedule don't always line up, and not everyone has a pickup. That's where your Loaders come in: they lift the old appliances and basement furniture, carry them out, and haul them off. Chisholm neighbors look out for each other, and your Loaders are glad to show up for you too.

What Happens to Your Junk

Donation first, recycling second, landfill last

Bulky items pile up fast when a Chisholm garage or basement gets cleared out, and where they end up matters. Your Loaders sort by condition, so usable pieces and recyclables stay out of the trash when local options allow.

  • No logistics or transport to handle
  • No sorting or drop-off required on your end
  • Local disposal fees covered

Local Disposal Rules

The Chisholm disposal rules most residents don't know

If you pull into the transfer station fully loaded minutes before closing, you may be turned away. These rules apply in Chisholm, a village of Jay, in Franklin County.

Rule 01

Demolition lumber must be broken into boards 8 feet or shorter

Jay requires lumber to be broken down into individual boards no longer than 8 feet, and pressure-treated wood must be kept apart from clean wood. Whole wall or deck sections are refused. So is debris from fully tearing down mobile homes or structures over 400 square feet.

Rule 02

Good furniture can skip the trash at the Share Shack

Jay residents can leave clean items in good condition, such as wooden furniture, housewares, small appliances and building materials, at the transfer station's Share Shack. It does not take mattresses, box springs, upholstered furniture, rugs, bedding, TVs or computers, and items taken from it cannot be resold.

Rule 03

Tire fees depend on size and whether rims stay on

At the Jay Transfer Station, car and truck tires up to 19 inches cost $3 each and truck tires 20 inches and larger cost $13 each. Each rim adds $3. Off-road tires are charged 15 cents per pound, and all tires must be checked in at the recycling building.

Rule 04

Curbside containers top out at 33 gallons and 50 pounds

Curbside collection in Jay takes only household trash and approved recyclables, in containers no larger than 33 gallons and no heavier than 50 pounds. Bulky waste, construction debris and demolition debris are never picked up at the curb and must go to the transfer station.

Rule 05

Brush drop-off excludes stumps, root balls and contractor loads

The Jay Transfer Station takes leaves and brush but not stumps or plants with root balls. Because of cost and space limits, it refuses brush from contractors and commercial properties. Christmas trees are accepted in season once every decoration has been removed.

Rule 06

Freon appliances are one of the few items with fees

Refrigerators, dehumidifiers, air conditioners, freezers and water coolers cost $10 each at the Jay Transfer Station. They must be checked in at the recycling building before unloading. Apart from these appliances and tires, materials the station accepts carry no fee.

Not bulky items. Jay, which includes Chisholm, picks up regular trash weekly and recycling every other week through Somerset Disposal. Bulky waste, construction debris, and demolition debris are not collected curbside and must go to the Jay Transfer Station.

The Jay Transfer Station at 672 Main Street handles it. Hours are Tuesday to Friday 9 AM to 3 PM and Saturday 8 AM to 4 PM. Call 207-897-5552 to confirm what is accepted and any fees before you load up.

LoadUp pricing for junk removal in Chisholm starts at $80, and curbside or driveway pickup takes $5 off. The first item includes the base pickup fee, each additional item is a flat add-on, and the exact total is confirmed before booking.

Not for curbside or driveway pickups. You can leave items out with access notes. For items inside your home, someone should be present or you can leave access instructions when booking. Your Loader typically gives notice before arriving.

Demolition debris, construction debris, and bulky waste are the main restrictions, and single-sort recycling goes out on the curb only. Pressure-treated wood needs separating from clean wood at the transfer station, and lumber must be cut to 8 feet or shorter.

Loaders aim to keep usable items out of the landfill. Depending on acceptance, items may be donated to local charities, and recyclables go to recycling facilities whenever possible. Whatever can't be reused or recycled goes to the appropriate disposal facility.

Book online, choose your items and a time window, and see the total before you confirm. On pickup day, your Loader arrives, removes the items, and hauls them away. Availability depends on your zip code and the schedule, so check live openings when booking.

Mostly pricing and booking. Traditional haulers usually charge by truckload and may confirm a price on site. LoadUp prices per item online and confirms the total before booking. For a full-house cleanout, a truckload hauler can make sense.
