The Problem

Getting junk out of an Akron house takes more than a plan

You check the city's website, call a couple of haulers, and wait. One wants to come look first, another never calls back. A month later, the junk is still sitting in the garage.

Free city pickup is great, when it works

Akron's city bulk pickup programs work well for some items, but they usually need to be scheduled ahead, they limit what qualifies, and they leave everything at the curb for you. Hauling a couch up from a cellar on your own is where it falls apart.

Traditional haulers play pricing games

Lots of haulers want to walk through your place before giving a price, then quote by fractions of a truckload. That number can change once the truck is loaded, so you don't really know what you owe until the work is already done.

Donation centers are picky (rightly)

Donation centers keep what they can resell. Stained mattresses, scratched dressers, and older appliances often get turned away, and you still have to load and drive everything there yourself. Whatever they refuse ends up riding home with you.

Dumpster rental is overkill for one room

A dumpster can sit in your driveway for days. Some streets may need a permit, delivery and pickup have to be scheduled, and on narrow lots it blocks cars and bugs the neighbors. You still do all the lifting yourself, just to clear one spare room.

What sets us apart

Your price is locked before pickup day

Most companies charge by truck space, and the price often changes on arrival. LoadUp charges by item, based on exactly what you're removing.

  • Per-item, predictable. First item includes the pickup fee. Every add-on is flat, no truck math, no hourly rates.
  • Locked means locked. The price at booking is what you pay. No adjustments, no surprises.
  • No-obligation quotes. Big job or full cleanout? Text a photo for a guaranteed price first.

Left at the curb or carried out from inside

If the load already sits at the bottom of your driveway or beside a detached garage, curbside keeps things simple and quick. Akron's hilly streets come with steep driveways and stacked front porch steps, so if that dresser is still upstairs, full-service means your Loaders carry it out and down the slope for you.

Neighborhoods Served

Serving Akron, from the Innerbelt out to the Portage Lakes

Anyone who has ever shoveled out an Akron driveway on a slushy February morning knows a couch on the porch is not a weekend project. Those hills punish a rented truck, too. Your Loader does the lifting, carrying, and loading while you stay warm, because your neighbors here have earned an easier winter.

What Happens to Your Junk

Donation first, recycling second, landfill last

Bulky items pile up fast in Akron, from estate cleanouts to rental turnovers, and where they end up matters. Your Loader sorts each item by condition, favoring donation or recycling over the landfill when local options allow.

Local Disposal Rules

The Akron disposal rules most residents don't know

Curbside items that break Akron's rules can be tagged and left behind, or bring a fine. These are the rules Akron households in Summit County need to know.

Rule 01

Old carpet and fencing must be tied in four-foot bundles

Akron's bulk guidelines require wood, branches, brush, carpeting and fencing to be bundled and tied, in lengths no longer than 4 feet. Cutting carpet and fence sections down before set out keeps them within the city's curbside requirements.

Rule 02

Hot fireplace ashes are banned from both city carts

Akron lists hot ashes among the items not permitted in either the trash or recycle cart. During long Northeast Ohio heating seasons, fireplace and wood stove ashes should sit until completely cold before anything goes into a cart.

Rule 03

Basement and moving cleanouts require a prescheduled Special Bulk pickup

Large loads of bags, boxes or trash from a move or a house, basement or garage cleanout need a Special Bulk Volume Pickup scheduled at least one working day ahead. Each home gets three yearly, and unscheduled extras can be tagged and left behind.

Rule 04

Curbside leaf piles must hold leaves and nothing else

During Akron's fall leaf collection, branches and other debris left in a pile will not be picked up. Bagged leaves need one of the three yearly Sanitation bulk pickups arranged through Akron 311, and raking leaves into a cleared street can bring a fine.

Rule 05

Drywall and other remodeling debris stay out of city collection

Roofing material, concrete, plaster, dirt, sand, gravel, bricks, drywall and demolition or construction materials are barred from Akron carts and will not be collected. The city also lists these materials as unacceptable for bulk pickup, so renovation waste needs another disposal route.

Rule 06

Couches and refrigerators can go out with weekly large-item collection

Akron's curbservice includes weekly large item collection on the normal collection day for things like couches and refrigerators that will not fit in a cart. Setting items at the curb before 4:30 PM the evening prior may result in fines.

Partly. Akron's weekly collection takes large household items like furniture on your normal trash day with no appointment, set about three feet from the city cart. Bulk piles from a cleanout need the city's Special Bulk Volume pickup. Confirm current limits with the city.

LoadUp pricing for junk removal in Akron starts at $75, and curbside or driveway pickup takes a flat $5 off. The first item includes the base pickup fee, each additional item is a flat add-on, and the exact total is confirmed before booking.

Same-day slots are sometimes open in Akron, depending on Loader availability and when you book. Enter your address during booking to see live times. For curbside pickups you usually don't need to be home, but indoor jobs need access arranged.

Household hazardous waste, scrap tires, and electronics generally stay off the curb in Akron. Summit County's solid waste authority, ReWorks, runs drop-off options for these, so check its current rules first. A hauler can take many bulky items, but hazardous materials are typically excluded.

Loaders aim to keep usable items out of the landfill. Depending on acceptance, furniture and household goods may go to local donation partners, and recyclable materials are routed to recyclers whenever possible. Items that can't be donated or recycled go to an appropriate disposal facility.

Choose your items online, pick a time window, and see your total before you confirm. On pickup day your Loader typically gives notice before arriving, then carries the items out, loads them, and takes them away. You don't have to haul anything to the curb yourself.

Mainly the pricing model. Many traditional haulers price by truck volume and may confirm the final price on site. LoadUp prices per item online and confirms the total before booking. For a full-house cleanout, a truckload hauler may suit you better.

For a few ordinary large items, Akron's free weekly collection is usually the cheaper choice if you can wait and follow the placement rules. A hauler makes more sense if you need a specific day, have heavy items upstairs, or have more than the city allows.
